Learn to Row with Yare Boat Club
In 2021 we are offering learn to row courses for adults lasting 4 sessions at a cost of only £80. Also ideal as a Christmas or Birthday gift, you can even purchase Learn to Row gift vouchers!
The next course dates for 2021 will be in April and June, dates to be confirmed. We can also offer more personalised coaching to get you started should we not be able to run the full courses due to Covid restrictions.
Our learn to row courses offer 10 hours of 1:1 attention on weekend mornings from 10:30am. You will have an opportunity to meet members of the club who will be supporting you; learn initially on an indoor rowing machine, then in a quad sculling boat on the water. By the end of the course we will have you racing in a double scull! We ask for firm commitment to all four sessions of the course.
The coaching is delivered both from within the boats, and from a launch by coaches under the mentorship of our head coach, Rob Kay, who has over 30 years of coaching experience and has hugely influenced recent club race success at local, regional and national level.
If you then choose to join the club, (pro rata for the rest of the calendar year) you will continue to be supported and coached in a single scull and crew boats on Sundays, for a small fee towards petrol and launch costs.
As competence grows, we aim to pass you in the “single sculling test” and complete a capsize drill in a swimming pool. You will then be able to take boats out on your own or in groups with others.
We have an active racing and development group to whom we offer coached sessions on Saturday and Sunday mornings at 07:45am (and other outings weekday evenings in the summer). The racing athletes also train on land several times a week. Group Erg (Indoor rowing) sessions take place at the club on Tuesday evenings through the winter, and a full training program is shared to all members to do as much or as little as they wish.
If you are more inclined towards rowing for recreation and pleasure, this is the club for you - we have many small groups of scullers who meet for company at various times and days of the week; once experienced, you may scull alone.
We have a full calendar of club events - racing (both against other clubs on our river and further afield, and fun races just for our own club), recreational outings, pub rows, social events and work parties.
